I have tried to make traditional Chana recipe from Goa(India) here but with slight variation. Instead of using normal yellow chana what we use for chana bhaji or chana masala, I used chickpeas. Chickpeas are high in fiber and proteins and very good for controlling cholesterol. This easy chickpea curry recipe goes well with any type of bread or rice.
So lets start with this Chickpeas Indian Recipe.
- 1 Cup Chickpeas
- 1 Onion
- 3-4 dry red chilies
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 4-5 black pepper corns
- 2 cloves
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp fennel seeds(saunf)
- 1 small tamarind ball
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp oil
- salt to taste
Slice onion into thin slices.
Add a tbsp of oil in a pan and fry onions until they are golden brown. This should take around 5 mins.
Add garlic and fry till aw smell goes away. For around 2 mins.
Add dry spices except turmeric like, black pepper, cloves, red chilies, coriander seeds, fennel seeds and fry for a minute.
Add coconut and fry till it changes its color.
Add turmeric powder. Switch off and let the mixture cool.
Grind the mixture and pour it in a pan. Fry it for 5 minutes and add chickpeas mix and boil for around 5 minutes. If it is too thick, add little water .
Remove from the gas and serve with rotis, parathas or rice.
