It is always better to prepare Caramel Popcorn at home rather then buying from store isn’t it? They get prepared quickly with few ingredients..
What is more then the joy of preparing any homemade dish rather then store bought with the same taste and texture and especially , when you family enjoys it? I bet everybody will agree with me.
All these years, we have been eating these Walmart bought popcorn in the bags to be popped in microwave . You get lots of flavors there, like cheddar cheese, salted, caramel etc. But I have heard that the fragrant steam which escapes from these bags of microwave popcorn contains chemicals according to a new report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. So, why to invite trouble, when we can prepare them at home?
So , today, I prepared these finger licking recipe of Crunchy caramel popcorn and they got finished by the end of the day. So, if you are preparing them, make sure you double my recipe and store them in the airtight container.
Yields: 8 Cups
Preparation Time:5 Minutes
Cook Time: 10 Minutes
Ingredients for Popcorn:
- 1/2 Cup Unpopped Popcorn kernels(Makes around 8 cups of popped popcorns)
- 2 Tablespoon Oil
Ingredients for the Caramel:
- 1 Tablespoon butter(Salted)
- 1 Cup(200 Grams) granulated white sugar
- 100 Ml Water
In a big saucepan, heat oil on high heat.
Drop in 2-3 popcorn kernels and wait till they pop.
Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining kernels.
Close the lid with slight tilt for steam to escape otherwise they will become soggy.
Keep shaking the saucepan.
The popcorn will pop up soon. This takes less then 2 minutes.
Once you hear the popping noise stop, remove the popped corns in a big bowl.
Discard the unpopped kernels.
To prepare syrup :
You should be quick at this point because once the syrup is prepared, it is very hot and bubbly and should soon be poured over the prepared popcorns. So keep everything handy and ready.
In a saucepan kept on medium heat, add sugar and water.
Stir till the sugar dissolves.
Increase the heat and you will see the syrup bubbling.
Keep scrapping the sides and the bottom of the pan .
The sugar will crystallize after some time and will soon melt and change color to golden.
At this point, switch off the stove and add butter.
Mix well till creamy consistency.
Our caramel sauce is now ready.
How to make Caramel Popcorn:Pour this caramel all over the prepared pop corns.
Mix well, coating all the pop corns with this caramel.
Pour all the pop corns on a tray lined with silver foil.
Spread it out and let them cool completely.
Loosen out the stuck popcorns with using hands and store in the airtight container.
Enjoy your favorite movie while munching these yummy and crunchy caramel popcorns.
