Amleche mel or kairiche god lonche or raw mango sweet and sour pickle is one of the delicious dips prepared in India. Amli means raw mango in Konkani language .
This pickle is basically prepared out of raw mango. Mango is cooked in jaggery and tempered with spicy tempering which gives it amat god(sweet and sour) taste. The ingredients are basic and the recipe is quite simple.
Let’s start preparing this pickle.

- 1 Large raw mango
- 1 1/2 cup Jaggery
- Some water
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 Tablespoon of oil
- 1/2 Teaspoon Hing/Asafetida
- 1/4 Teaspoon Methi/Fenugreek Seeds
- 1 Teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2-3 Slit green chillies
Wash and wipe the mango, peel and make small pieces (around 1/2 inch length).
Take it in a vessel and using little water(around 10 tablespoons) cook on medium heat until tender.Check with toothpick. This will take around 5-7 minutes.
Take jaggery in a vessel .Add 3-4 tablespoons of water and boil till it it melts completely and becomes thick. Keep stirring occasionally to prevent jaggery from burning. It will take around 7-8 minutes.
Add the cooked mango pieces into jaggery mixture and let it cook on medium high heat for around a minute.
Mean time prepare tempering by adding oil in a tempering pan.Once the oil heats up well, add all the above tempering ingredients.Cover and remove from heat once mustard starts spluttering.
Remove chillies out for later use and with mortar, grind the remaining tempering ingredients to course powder.
Add salt, chilli powder , green chillies and tempering powder to the above mango jaggery mixture . Mix well.
Cook till jaggery thickens . This will take around 10 minutes.
There your kairiche god lonche is all ready. Remove from heat.
Keep it till it cools down completely and enjoy with roti, chapati or any bread.
