Sungta Suke /Prawns Dry Recipe
Sungta sukem or Dry gravy of Prawns is one of the authentic Goan recipes . Usually prepared out of medium to small size shrimps(Prawns). This is a basic recipe and tastes very good with rice or chapati.
Ingredients :
- 200 Grams (medium sized shelled and cleaned) Prawns/shrimps
- 1 Small onion chopped very fine
- 2 Slit Green Chillies
- Salt to taste
- 3-4 Kokum
Masala Ingredients:
- ½ cup Coconut
- 3-4 Red Chillies
- 1 Teaspoon Coriander Seeds/ Dhania
- 1 -2 cloves of Garlic
- ½ inch Ginger
- 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder/Haldi
- ½ Teaspoon Garam masala
Method:
Shell, devein and clean the prawns. Apply salt and keep aside.
Grind the ingredients mentioned under Masala Ingredients into fine paste.Use very less water. It should not be runny but thick.
On a medium high heat in a heavy bottom vessel, put prawns along with ground masala, onion, green chillies , add 1/2 Cup water and cook it covered until prawns change the color and the mixture dries up completely. This will take around 10 Minutes
Remove cover , add salt and Kokum . Cover and cook for another minute.
Remove from heat and serve hot with roti, chapati or rice.
