We all know we need to drink more water. 60% of your body is made up of the stuff, and it is essential to keep you alive and healthy. It is essential for every single bodily function and provides you with all kinds of benefits, from improved cognition to weight maintenance to digestion.
It is commonly recommended that you drink eight glasses of water a day, or two liters, but for a lot of people, this can seem like a remarkably high benchmark. If you don’t particularly enjoy the taste of water, you sometimes feel you have to force yourself to drink enough. You’d much rather be chugging down an ice-cold can of Coke or sipping on a steaming cup of coffee instead.
But staying hydrated shouldn’t have to be a chore. You don’t need to go running to the tap every thirty minutes to fill up another glass of water if this doesn’t work for you. There are several clever tips and tricks you can adopt to get more H2O into your body without too much effort. To get you started, here are four easy ways to drink more water
Establish a routine
When you have a busy lifestyle and you’re constantly rushing around to get things done, it’s understandable that you have very little available mental capacity to focus on your hydration levels. But if you can make drinking water part of your routine, then it will become second nature. Make drinking a large glass of water the first thing you do when you wake up. You will instantly feel more alert and refreshed, as your body will be dehydrated after your long sleep. Keep a glass of water by your bed at night, and set a habit of having a drink with every meal.
Make it more enjoyable
If a bland glass of water doesn’t scream deliciousness to you, why don’t you make it more exciting with a little flavor? There are plenty of ways to make water taste nicer by infusing it with fruit such as lemon slices, watermelon chunks, or orange peel. Herbal and fruit teas are another excellent way to maintain your hydration, as they are just cups of hot water with a little bit of flavoring. You can buy tea online in whatever flavor or form you prefer, but make sure it doesn’t contain caffeine, as this can have a dehydrating effect.
Carry a large water bottle
Carrying a water bottle around with you at all times makes it easier to stay hydrated throughout the day, and you should make sure it is as large as possible. You’ll easily chug a small bottle fairly quickly, so you don’t want to have to keep running to the tap all day. A large two-liter bottle or a similar container will make it easier to achieve your daily intake target.
Eat hydrating foods
It’s not just liquids that will help you reach your hydration target, as food can be an excellent source of water too. There are plenty of fruits and vegetables rich in H2O, such as cucumber, celery, grapes, spinach, grapefruit, and watermelon. Just work out what you like and incorporate more of it into your diet.
