Baked Honey Sesame Chicken is prepared exactly in the same way as the traditional one, except, chicken pieces are baked instead of frying.
Honey Sesame Chicken is mostly cooked in Chinese Cuisines where chicken pieces are de-bonned, battered and then deep fried. The sauce is prepare from corn starch, vinegar, chicken broth , and honey.
While serving, crispy fried chicken is coated with this sauce and topped with sesame seeds which are either toasted or untoasted. It is then served with vegetables like broccoli and Chinese baby corn.
In my recipe, I have done the exact same process but instead of deep frying the chicken pieces, I have baked them.
Only remember to use low sodium soy sauce , otherwise it will make your dish salty. If you can’t find low sodium one, then decrease the quantity of soy sauce and increase the quantity of water.

- 1 Lb or 453 Grams chicken breasts
- 1 Tablespoon black pepper powder
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Cup bread crumbs
- Sesame seeds for sprinkling on top
- About a tablespoon of Oil for drizzling
Ingredients for Sauce:
- 1 Teaspoon Olive Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper powder(Or red chili powder)
- 3 Garlic cloves Minced
- 1 Tablespoon grated ginger
- 3/4 Cup Honey
- 1/3 Cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 Cup water
- 2 Tablespoon cornstarch(Prepare using 2 tablespoon water in 2 tablespoons of corn flour)
- 1/4 Cup Rice Vinegar
Wash and cut chicken breasts into bite size pieces.
Sprinkle oil on top and mix.
Sprinkle salt and pepper powder. Mix well.
Coat them well with breadcrumbs.
Arrange on baking tray lined with silver foil.
Bake at 350 degree Fahrenheit preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a cooking pot kept on medium heat and add garlic ,ginger and cayenne pepper.
Mix , cook for few seconds and add the remaining sauce ingredients except cornstarch. Mix well.
Let the mixture boil.
Mix and cook till the sauce thickens up.
Remove the chicken from the oven ,and arrange the pieces in a pot and pour the prepared sauce over it.
Mix well, take it in the serving bowl and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
Serve hot with rice and some veggies.
