How to Eat Vegan More Easily
Lots of people around the world who would typically eat meat as part of their daily diet have started to consider a plant based way of eating. There could be a number of reasons that they choose to do so, and those include the fact that eating fewer animal products is better for our health, and the environment.
It’s no secret that the higher the demand for meat, the more is available to provide for people, but the quality is less than if people were to try to eat less.
If you’re considering going vegan or adding more vegan meals to your diet, here are some tips to help you make the transition.
What Is a Vegan Diet?
A vegan diet is one where the person does not consume any food products that contain animal products. So that means no meat, fish, dairy, or eggs. Some vegans will eat honey, but others will argue that honey is an animal product. Many vegans will not wear clothes that come from animals such as silk or leather–choosing to wear their synthetic alternatives.
Look Online For Recipes
It might be that a lot of your favorite recipes are already vegan, but the internet has hundreds and thousands of vegan recipes out there. From delicious Dals to mushroom tacos and cupcakes, you can easily find what you are looking for on the internet. Pinterest and Instagram are full of pictures of delicious vegan foods just waiting for you to try them out!
Make Substitutions
If you have a favorite recipe that the whole family enjoys, you may not have to stop cooking it just because you’re choosing to eat more vegan foods. There are many ways you can take a recipe and substitute or omit some of the ingredients to make them vegan.
For example, this bean soup recipe contains bacon (which you can omit) and chicken broth (which can be replaced with vegetable broth). The soup will still be delicious, even without having those additional ingredients added.
Things you can typically substitute. Dairy products with soy, coconut, or nut based creams, milks and yoghurts. Butter with vegan margarine or oil, eggs with ‘flax eggs’ ( ground flax seeds with water, left to sit) or aquafaba, which is the water from a chickpea can and can be whipped up like egg whites.
There are a huge number of meat alternatives on the market, too. It’s all about trying them out and finding your favorites.
Find Accidentally Vegan Treats
How can something be ‘accidentally’ vegan? Well, aside from the products which are obviously vegan such as fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains–an accidentally vegan product is one that you wouldn’t expect to not contain any animal products. This is where looking at food labels is very important. You may think you have to miss out on eating cookies unless you make them, but it’s not true. There are many products on the market that are not labelled vegan but are still enjoyed by vegans every day.
Have you ever thought about eating vegan?
