Oats Ladoo / Oats Indian Balls
Oats Ladoo / Oats Indian Balls is one of the best and healthiest sweets to be served for any Indian festivals.
Ganesh Chaturthi is approaching. Are you guys excited? I remember how it used to be during my childhood. Festive season , excitement everywhere , ladies all busy making different kinds of sweets . Â
Indian Snacks or desserts is one of my aunt’s(whom we call maushi) specialty. She is an excellent cook. When I was little , I always wondered how beautifully she shaped the ladoo , also called laddu  . Tried out many times with her,to give them perfect round shape, but couldn’t manage then. Eventually I grew up and learnt many different ways to prepare ladoos. I experimented with lots of different ingredients to prepare them. Tried out many healthy variations too. One of my favorites is Nutty Wheat ladoo which I had prepared some time back and was very much appreciated  at home and by my friends.Â
Easy to cook desserts is my top most priority because I don’t like to be for long time in kitchen and slog there. I want something quick , healthy and delicious . Earlier I had prepared rawa ladoo , but this time, decided to do some variation to them and add a healthy touch. Oats is one thing which is hated in my family , and I know , the things which are healthy , often are ignored because of the taste. But we moms have to scratch our heads and somehow find out the solution , so that kids enjoy them . My son likes Indian sweets  , hence I prepared Oats ladoo with rawa(semolina) mixed in them using brown sugar instead of regular white sugar. He never could guess that they have oats in them , as they were really soft and perfect. Â
So, from this year, one more item is added to my list of  festival sweets. Let’s celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with these soft  and ladus.Â
Preparation time:Â 15 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes
Yields : 12Â
Ingredients:
- 3/4 Cup Rolled Oats
- 1/4 Cup Rawa/Sooji/Semolina
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Ghee/Clarified Butter plus little extra for greasing palms
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cardamom powder
Method:
Heat a skillet and dry roast rawa on medium heat until fragrant. Do not over roast them.
Remove on a plate and let it cool down.Â
Dry roast oats on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Let them cool down. this will take about 10 minutes.Â
Grind the oats to fine powder.
In a saucepan kept on medium high heat, add melted ghee and powdered oats.
Mix well and let it cook for 5-6 minutes.
Add roasted rawa and mix.
Add sugar and mix well.
Lastly , sprinkle cardamom powder and mix.
Remove the mixture on a plate and allow to cool for sometime. Don’t let the mixture cool down completely because otherwise you won’t be able to shape up the laddus.
Grease your palm with little melted ghee and scoop about 2 tablespoons of the laddu mixture on the palm and shape them up nice and round.Â
If you can’t shape up properly, then add little more melted ghee into the laddu mixture and continue shaping.
Repeat for all the ladoos and store them in an airtight container once cooled down completely.Â
Next day, they the laddus will be all nice and firm.
