Homemade Hide and Seek Biscuits or Cookies
Hide and Seek Biscuit or cookies are famous among Indian kids and it’s but obvious because every bite has chocolate chips which makes you crave for more.
Hide and Seek Biscuit are first chocolate chips cookies( biscuits) launched in India in 1996. Though as a child I missed out the fun eating them, my son just loves these cookies. Every time we go for shopping, he points out to them, but I keep telling him that I will learn how to make them at home , be a perfectionist and then you can have them as many as you want because whatever I cook at home , I know what goes in my family’s tummy and that keeps me satisfied and relaxed.
I have tried out and failed lot of times in the past to make biscuits and thats when I decided to attend proper cookie making sessions near my place and learnt a lot from my teacher. Also learnt that “Marvo” which is the best substitute for oil or butter in cookies. It has no water content which keeps cookies in shape after we bake them . All these years I was getting them wrong. I was adding butter, which makes cookies expand after baking. Marvo is also healthy so use it and make your crunchy hide and seek cookies.
Since this is egg free, you can make it completely vegan by substituting milk with water and we also get dairy free chocolate chips in market now. Use them without sacrificing on taste.
Preparation Time:Â 15 Minutes
Baking Time : 15 Minutes
Yields :40-45 Cookies
Ingredients :Â
- 250 Grams All Purpose Flour/Maida
- 40 Grams Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 125 Grams Powder Sugar
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 25 Grams Chocolate Chips
- 125 Grams Marvo
- 50 Ml Milk or water(Use as per requirements)
- 1 Teaspoon Chocolate Essence
Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients like all purpose flour, Cocoa powder and baking powder in a bowl.
In a separate bowl, take marvo and with a electric beater set on lowest speed, beat it for few seconds for few seconds.
Add salt and beat again for few more seconds.
Gradually add powder sugar and beat till sugar gets mixed well with marvo.
Add essence and beat .
Gradually add dry ingredients beating on low speed .
Check the consistency of batter . If its too tight(dry) add little milk or water at a time and continue beating till you get a soft dough.
Spread some chocolate chips on the plateform or you may spread them on parchment paper and place the dough on top. With rolling pin, roll the dough evenly .
With fork you may make design on top of rolled dough just like hide and seek cookies you get in market or leave it as it is and sprinkle more chocolate chips over it. Lightly roll with rolling pin for pressing these chips.
With square cookies cutter, cut them into squares
Place all the cookies on cookie tray. If you are using microwave convection oven, set the temperature to 140 C (284 Farenheit). If you are using OTG set the temperature to 160 C (320F) and bake for about 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure you preheat them and the time will vary depending upon the oven settings.
Remove out . Let them cool down for about 5 minutes and then arrange on cooling rack so that they get cooled evenly. Once cooled, store in airtight container.

Wots marvo ?
Marvo is the shortening used in cookies to retain the shape and texture. Also makes them crunchy.
I am loving all the chocolate that is going on here. Never had a cookie like this, so I will have to try.
