If you are looking for something Vegetarian Chinese recipe which is also not deep fried, then you have come to the correct spot. Yes, this paneer chilli tastes the same like the deep fried ones and also is quick and easy to prepare.
I have added only 4 green chillies in this, but you can increase them if you want more hot and spicy.
Normally for chilli paneer recipe, paneer is deep fried , but I have shallow fried them on a skillet, as I usually avoid deep fried food. Also I have made it dry , but you can always adjust water as per you consistency choice.
So let’s see how to prepare this mouth watering dish.

- 200 grams Paneer/Cottage Cheese
- 4 Tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Soya Sauce
- 1/4 Cup chopped Green Onions/Spring onions/ scallions(reserve few for garnishing)
- 1/2 Tablespoon Chopped ginger + garlic
- 4-5 Green chillies(Chopped into very small pieces)
- 1 Sliced Bell pepper/Capsicum
- 1/2 Teaspoon Vinegar
- 3/4 Cup water
- 1/2 Teaspoon Black pepper powder
- 1 Teaspoon Red Chilli powder
- 1 Tablespoon corn flour dissolved in 2 Tablespoons water
- Salt sugar as required
Ingredients for coating:
- 1/2 Teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1 Tablespoon Corn flour
- 2 Tablespoons water
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
Cut paneer into small 1 inch size cubes.
Mix the ingredients mentioned in coating and coat paneer pieces well with this. Keep aside.
Heat a skillet.
Add 2 tablespoons of oil and shallow fry paneer on medium high heat for about 2 minutes or until they slightly turn color, flipping in between.
Remove and strain excess oil by putting them on paper towel.
Don’t over fry.
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a heavy bottom vessel and add spring onions fry on medium high heat till transparent.
Add chopped ginger garlic and fry till raw smell goes away.
Add bell pepper and chopped chillies and cook them covered till capsicum is half cooked.
Add Soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, black pepper powder and salt.
Add water and Cornflour paste. Mix and Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Cook till it thickens.
>Add chilli powder. mix.
Mix fried cubes and simmer 1-2 mins.
Garnish with green onions and serve with fried rice or any bread.
