Microwave Bhapa Doi – Bengali Dessert
Bhapa doi is one of the tasty Bengali dessert with yogurt as main ingredient and can be quickly made in microwave within 5 minutes.
Sometimes eating sweet is not a big deal guys! I know most of the time,we try to cut short fats, sugars in whatever we prepare, but few recipes, you just can’t help. Many times it happens that we get this huge cravings for sweets and to our bad luck, we can’t find any . It happens to me. Then I go , make myself some coffee and munch a few cookies to satisfy that urge.
Yogurt is one thing that my family cannot live without and sometimes we have it in abundance , so I use it to marinate chicken or cook some veggies . This time, thought of trying this wonderful Bengali dessert Bhapa Doi(steamed yogurt) . It is an eggless dessert. Traditionally the sweetened yogurt(Curd) is steamed . People also make it using water bath and baking in convection. Once or twice I prepared it in microwave and overtime it goes perfect. Though variations can be made to this easy dessert by adding mango puree, pineapple flavours, we just go for traditional way. Love to just add a pinch of cardamom and few saffron strands. Thats it!! Just takes 5-6 minutes depending upon how many bowls and size of the bowls you are using to prepare it.
Preparation Time: 5 Minutes
Microwave Time : 5 Minutes
Serves :4
Ingredients :
- 2 1/2 Cups Thick Yogurt / Hung Curd
- 300 Ml Sweetened Condensed milk / A full Tin
- 1 Tablespoon warm milk
- Pinch of Saffron Strands
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cardamom Powder
Method:
In a small bowl, take warm milk and add a pinch of saffron strands. Let it stand for 5 minutes. This saffron milk gives Bhapa Doi some healthy and flavourful touch.
Mix together yogurt and Saffron milk.
Add in condensed milk and cardamom powder and mix thoroughly.
Pour it in microwave safe bowls or Ramekin bowls filling only 3/4th of each bowl. I love to sprinkle some saffron strands on top.
If you are keeping 1 bowl at a time, then microwave 1 minute for each bowl otherwise you can microwave 3-4 bowls at a time for about 5-6 minutes. To check if they are done, just insert toothpick in the centre. It should come out clean.
Remove out and let them cool down. I prefer my Bhapa Doi chilled . How would you prefer yours?
Really liked the microwave recipe over Long n tedious steamed, baked recipes ??
