No Yeast Garlic Naan / Indian Flat Bread Without Yeast
Naan, or nan is a flatbread found in the cuisines of India specially North India . It has also spread to other parts of West Asia. This naan bread just makes you fall in love. The texture of this naan is very beautiful : pillowy and elastic. There are different types of naan recipes available like peshwari naan,keema naan,garlic naan, butter naan. Normally Naan is done using tandoor that is a clay oven that can reach high temperature. But since it isn’t possible at home, the stove top naans is the substitute. Also in naan yeast is the ingredient used which makes it puffy but here in this recipe, naan is prepared without yeast but the taste is the same. Â

Ingredients:
- 2 Cups (256 Grams) whole wheat flour + 1 Cup(128 Grams) All purpose flour(Maida)
- 3/4 Cups of Water(or as required)
- 3 Tablespoons of Yogurt
- 5-6 Grated garlic
- Dry Basil leaves( or powdered basil )
- 2 Tablespoons of Milk
- 3 Tablespoons of Oil
- Butter for greasing naan
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
Method:
Mix all the above dry ingredients( 2 Cups whole wheat flour + 1 Cup All purpose flour,salt,baking powder) together.
Mix Wet ingredients(yogurt,milk and water) in other bowl.
Add this wet ingredient mixture into the dry mixture, start kneading and keep the dough covered with wet cloth and a plate on top for about 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, add oil and knead well. Cover with cloth and a plate and keep for 2 hours.
Now take a tennis ball size ball of this dough , dab it with some dry wheat flour and roll it with rolling pin  about 3 inches . Sprinkle some garlic and little basil leaves.
Sprinkle dry whole wheat flour on top and roll again. Make around 8 inch diameter and 1/4 inch thick.
On a hot skillet, put this naan. Cook on medium high heat for around 1 minute or until you see bubbles coming up.
Flip and repeat on the second side.
Now increase the stove to high flame and keep roti rack on it. Flip the cooked naan on this rack and once it puffs up, flip and repeat on the other side.
Remove and apply butter.
Repeat this for the remaining naan.
Enjoy this homemade naan bread with any of your favorite gravy item, like chicken , mutton , palak paneer etc.
