Chicken Vindaloo : Easy Version
I have been a big fan of Goan food which is also authentic and always try to make some modifications to see the difference. If you guys love Goan Food, you definitely would love to try out my other Goan Recipes.
Today, let us try Vindaloo.
So what is Vindaloo?
Vindaloo, vindallo,vindalho or vindaalo is a popular dish brought down by Portuguese in the State of Goa, India. It is normally prepared out of meat , usually pork. But you can use the same vindaloo paste to prepare totally vegetarian vindaloo, using, cauliflower or mushrooms or paneer(Cottage Cheese).
Authentic Chicken vindaloo recipe, requires wine, but can be substituted with vinegar or lime juice. Remember to adjust chilies according to how hot you want this recipe to be. Usually vindaloo is a spicy Indian Chicken curry , but we can always alter it.
The recipe is quick and very simple. But try not to Skip potatoes, because it gives a good authentic feel to it.
So lets see how to make Chicken Vindaloo.

Preparation Time:10 Â Minutes
Cooking Time: 35 Minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 Pounds(1 kg) Chicken(Washed and cut into pieces)
- 1 Big potato peeled, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 Tablespoons Red Chili Powder(According to how spicy you want)
- 2 Tablespoons oil
- Few Chopped Coriander leaves for garnishing(Optional)
- Salt to taste
Ingredients for Paste:
- 1 Big onion
- 2 Tomatoes
- Bunch of coriander leaves(Cilantro)
- 1 Inch ginger
- 3-4 Garlic cloves
- 1 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
- 1 Tablespoon Garam Masala
- 1 Inch cinamom Stick
- 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Cumin Powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon fenugreek seeds/methi(Optional)
- 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar or lime juice
- 5-6 Dry Red chilies
Method:
Grind the ingredients for paste together with very less water to smooth paste.
Heat oil in a saucepan over medium high heat and add this ground paste in it. Saute for few minutes until it is browned. (For 5Â minutes).
Add chili powder and mix well.
Add chicken . Saute for 5 minutes. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.
Add potatoes. Cover and cook . Check potatoes in between to see if they are cooked to soft.
This will take another 10 minutes.
Adjust salt and sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.
Mix well. Let it simmer on low heat for 10 minutes.
Remove from the stove and serve with rice.
